24-07-08 Splashback woes

From reading the other blogs it appears a few PD customers are having to make new choices again as items become 'No Longer Available'. Got an email from 'H' our CSC yesterday, to advise us that the splashback we had chosen for the kitchen is no longer available and that we would need to select a different one. Isn't that just dandy!
We were going with a bronzed mirror splashback and had chosen tiles for the alcove bench area between the WIP and fridge to compliment them. After speaking with 'H', we have confirmed that we are allowed to source the same splashback elsewhere ourselves if we wish, but would not be able to install it until after handover, and PD would be installing cement sheets on the splashback in the meantime to achieve the Certificate of Occupancy.

We are now talking with a few contacts to see if we can source the same materials elsewhere. If we can't, then off to H/toun we go for more decisions. Not sure how this will affect our tile selection for the alcove area.....I wonder if they will allow us to alter them accordingly?

That sucks! What splashback did you choose? Painted glass or something else? Makes me think that we were very lucky as we didn't have to substitute anything during our build.

We were going for a Bronze Mirror splashback - something a little different. We saw it in one of the displays somewhere and 'L' fell in love it.

What a shame - esp when you had picked something unique and something that you really loved. If you can source it externally won't PD just install it for you and credit the cost of the splashback itself?
Alternatively what about a glass splashbac painted with that Dulux mirror/metallic effect paint in a bronze colour?
Hope you find something else that you love!

oh no, that's not good at all. Feel for you, I spent all afternoon today at NT in Mitcham and it wasn't easy and I could not find another tile to go with our cabinetry.......very sad.

I would insist that PD lets you change the tiles for the alcove if you do have to go for a different splashback. It's only fair.

Sorry about the deleted post above, I wasn't thinking........bit tired tonight. What I said was - I went back to your colour selections that you posted earlier this year. I noticed that your main floor tile code was the same as ours bar the last digit. If the tile you have picked is from the "Urban" range - Earth, Storm, Cloud and Latte then these are the ones that have been discontinued. I may be way off track but I wanted to let you know just in case.

Thanks for your comments. We have been able to locate a few places that do the Bronze Mirror and one that supplies a 10yr warranty as well.
HTB, with regard to the tiles which are 'no longer avaialble' we are going to have to check our specs and see. Although, considering we are due to start tiling next week, I would have thought PD would have contacted us by now if there was an issue.

oh, maybe they have put some Urban away for you (if you have chosen it) seeing as you are nearly ready for that stage. I spoke to our CSC yesterday and she had no idea that the Urban range had been discontinued.

Well I have now spoken with 'F' and he has assured me that there are no issues with tile availability for our place, it's just that the tiles for the wet areas are going to be delayed in arriving. The tiler can start on the downstairs traffic areas in the meantime so it should not cause any delays to the schedule - phew!
