22-07-08 Painting & Cabinets

It appears to have been a busy week last week!

Both of our new doors have finally been installed...

and with the Tri-lock.

The garage ceiling has been painted...

...and so has the window surround.

The painters have also laid some coats of paint on all the internal walls, ceiling and doors too! The paint colour for the walls is half strength Chalk Beige and the architraves and skirting will be the same colour but in gloss.

Here is the Family room...

and here are the doors all lined up like dominoes all painted.

This is a shot of the Master Bedroom.

It would appear also that after the PD quality inspection they have had to rectify a few items. The entry to the WIR has been ripped off and replaced with new edging.

The holes in the corridor walls have been patched.

The Master bedroom cornice has also been ripped off one of the walls too.

Our replacement cabinets have also been installed as well...here is the ensuite unit.

And here is the bathroom unit.

Hang on, Did he say 'Replacement' cabinets?

Yes, ALL of our cabinets have been replaced.

Late last year when we were looking at what options we wanted to include, we had budgeted to get the 2mm ABS edging applied to all of the cabinets as this is a more durable surface than the standard laminate edge. As we have this in our current kitchen, we can appreciate its value and appearance, and wanted to make sure we had it in our new home as well. When we went out to Hopetoun we were told that it was standard and would be included on all cabinets - we thought 'Yippee' - a small saving our way!

When the cabinets were installed two weeks ago, we noticed that they did not have the ABS edging as expected. Several disgruntled phone calls and emails later, PD have come to the party and honoured their word and replaced ALL of the cabinets with the ABS edging including all the doors, drawers and end panels.

I have included some pictures below of the before and after cabinets showing the difference. Suffice to say we are much happier now :-)

This is without the ABS edging.

And these are the new cabinets with the ABS edging.

It's all looking fabulous! I wish I'd known about that ABS edging - I bet we don't get it, either...if I'd known about it , I would have asked for it - and I KNOW my cabinets are sitting in a factory somewhere all ready to go...and here we are, having started a week before you, and still not to lock up, way off, in fact. :-(

Another example of people not knowing what they SHOULD know - I'm glad PD came to the party and gave you what you were told you would get! ;-)

Wow, busy week alright! Nice doors and glazing ;-) Can't believe you are up to painting already!! Good pick up on the edging to the cabinets, we were told on our selection day that this was standard although they may have referred to it as PVC/PCV edging??? I'm pleased for you that PD replaced them for you wihtout too much bother.

I was quite surprised to read that you have chalk beige in half strength. We asked for this to our upstairs and were told by H/toun via our CSC that it would not give good coverage and they advised us against having it.....was this ever said to you?

Are you happy with the Amari Oak? Kids are having this in their bathroom but I thought it would be lighter or maybe it's the photo.

Thanks for all the photos! Are you happy with everything at the moment?

Hi HTB, we are very happy that they changed the cabinets, but I would't say it was done 'without too much bother' if you get my drift.
We actually changed the wall colour as a Post Contract Variation and neither H/toun or the CSC mentioned anything about coverage or otherwise. I think it (insert expletive)stinks that its OK for some to have changes and not others. It has been shown time and time again that there are no standards within PD when it comes to what options you are allowed to have.
On a brighter note, the Amari Oak looks great - we are very happy with all of the colours so far. Can't wait for the feature walls to be done :-) Tiling starts next week too - woohoo

Tiling???!!! Wow, you guys are really moving along. You'll have your keys in no time.....

Sorry to hear that there was some "bother". I'm surprised at this.....obviously it's their mistake so they should fix it. Glad you got them anyway. I'll be checking mine!

Totally agree with your comments on options between clients. I have one word that I use alot "crap"!

Glad you like the Amari, it's the first time I've seen it made up.

Terrific photos - well done! It's amazing that we are supposedly less than a week from handover, and we still don't have some of the things done which have been done o your place (tri-lock, painted garage). I wonder if you will get in before we do?

I didn't realise that you were having 'Amari Oak' - it looks GREAT. I feel much better now - we're having that in all 5 ensuites, and I was getting worried about how it would look made up (bit of post choice anxiety-type thing!) Now I can relax - and look at your photos to remind me - thanks! ;-)
