27-05-08 A few more bricks to go...

Well the bricks are almost all done. The only things left to complete are the base of the windows and the top of the balcony. The AC sheeting has also now been delivered so they can start working on the wet areas.

Here you can see how much rain we have been getting! And all of that mud is through the house. We were a bit concerned about the front door threshold (is that what you call it?) being wrecked from all of the the traffic and dirt being tracked in. We noticed that the external laundry door threshold has a galvanised steel plate over it to protect it and asked 'F' if there was a way of doing the same for the front entry - he said no, they normally don't cover the front entry. Well we will certainly be checking it come handover to see what (if any) damage has occurred in the meantime.

Looks very nice now that you can't see the ugly sarking (Alfoil wrap) anymore. Can't wait for the bricks to be cleaned and the scaffolding to be removed.

Here is a quick pic of the HT wiring. Made sure I kept the AV cables away from the power supply.

Great pictures. We noticed the plates over the door treads too, and now that ours has been stained, we have noticed a crack in the one on the front door. Not really an "in your face" thing, but still a bit annoying. I can't see why they can't put something on to cover it.

Nice work on the wiring! Very impressive. If you go back through our photos you will see something similar for ours. As I decided to put sound batts in that wall, I actually put a noggin in above so I could run cables through at a later date.

Nice work! You'll be at plaster before you know it.

WOW !!! That looks great !
It's all taking shape now. The bricks are a nice colour - even before the `clean'. CC

Hi Perry, yeah I modelled my wiring off yours and Mike's :-)

Thanks CC. Just hanging out for the scaffolding to come down so I can see the whole thing.

Kev is doing his inpsection today so it should be intersting to see what he finds.

Hi guys - looking fantastic, and, yeah, the door sill issue was the exact thing we asked about at our site mtg on Monday - why do they not cover them, it's obviously something the home owners are all concerned about if we've ALL thought of it!!!
Hope your inspection goes well - I'd be very interested to hear what he comes up with.

Can't believe how quick your brickies are working. Looks great, good colour choice. I noticed that the eave has been removed over the master bedroom. Did you want totally a eaveless house? Can't wait to see it once scaffolding has been removed.

We are interested too in the eaves or lack of them to the front. We knew that the corner has been put back in. I bet that you received no credit for having them removed?

If you are installing the insulation this weekend, enjoy your prickly weekend...speaking from experience.

Looking Great and the garage is huge. Wish we could of done that.

Hey Toni,

Yes, removing the eave went hand in hand with the other structural change that we made (the one that M&M have just pointed out), one which was very important to us both & something we wanted & decided on from our very first visit to the Cremorne - we decided to push both of the corners of the front projection back out.

We thought that removing the eave would look best visually with the corner rebate opened up. We had the option of making a ‘fake’ return eave on the front of the house but later decided that the look we have gone for suited us better. Once you make the decision, it’s amazing how many houses you notice without eaves.

The variation to push the corners out actually cost us $280! Nothing comes free these days.

BTW - Our inspection has been delayed till Sat now as 'K' couldn't make it. Lock-up is planned for today and the Plasterer's are tee'd up for Tue so it will be tight to get any mod's done based on ‘K’ report if they are major.

Scaffolding is due to come down Tue after they finish washing the bricks so this will be a momentous day for photos :-)
