14-5-08 Brick walls and Plaster

Lou went up to the block yesterday and the brick work is coming along at a great pace. We love the colour and 'I' can't wait till the weekend to see it in person. By then I assume the lower level should be complete at this rate.

When we visited the block last weekend a truck pulled up on the neighbouring block with two guys and they just sat in the truck like they were having a tea break. They had these strange green sacks on the back of the truck. Turns out they are sand bags and they have been placed across the front of our block! I am assuming the rain has been casing a fair bit of soil and water run off and they are hoping to minimise it using the sand bags?

We have also had our plaster delivered. They've had to knock out the Games room window to crane drop the load into the second storey. I assume it will sit here for a while yet as they need to get a lot more brick work done before they start.

We now have access to the upper level via the ladder that has been installed and padlocked in place.

Oh, and by the way, I have added links to our floor plans (for those who are interested) on the top right of the blog underneath the intro blurb.

Hi T&L, Bricks look good! We had the plaster sitting upstairs for ages as well, they seem to deliver it quite early.
Your garage looks huge on the plans. I tried to look at your lower level plan but it kept coming up as the upper level??

Thanks Marita for that pick up - all fixed now. Yes, the garage has been widened by 2.8m We tried for the full 3m but didn't have enough space on the block.

Your house is looking great. The kids must be a bit excited (or do they not fully understand yet?).

It's amazing how fast everything happens, and hopefully we won't have too many bad days which will slow you down. Keep the photos coming!

Hi Guys,
Bricks look great. Really nice colours and not just brown like I thought they were going to be. How nice would timber windows look with them.......nice. You must be pleased to see some progress. Good that the plaster is there ready. Wondering what colour render you are having on your portico? Are the girls getting excited to see the house taking shape? Toni

Hi B&P, the eldest is very excited about the new house and loves visiting and playing in the brickies sand. The youngest (20mths) just loves playing in the sand ;-)

D&L, Kevin is due to make an inspection some time late next week I believe. He has made contact with the SS and all seems to be on track.

Toni, we are VERY pleased with the colour. The render on the portico will be 'Touchstone' from the Rockcote' range. We thought about timber windows and also timber sliding doors, but have seen the display home ones and noticed that the weather hadn't been kind to them and they will probably require a fair bit of maintenance (IMO), so I would rather spend my time with the kids and my darling wife than sand and re-varnish windows. They also cost a bit too ;-)

Great that you are happy :-) I think the bricks look great, can't wait to see it all completed. I don't know the touchstone colour. Timber windows are very nice, but you're right they need alot of maintenance and yes they are expensive. We looked at a block of land in another estate and the house needed timber windows all around - $15k was the quote - ouch!
